Worst Customer Service Ever, Buy.com
Post # 1, Customer Service at Buy.com:
This isn’t my first time ordering from Buy.com. This is closer to the 10th time buying from Buy.com com. I don’t know why I didn’t learn my lesson the last time I ordered something and it took over three weeks to receive.
I’ve ordered many products from Buy.com:
1. ATI HDTV Wonder Remote Control about $200
2. Rio Nitrus 1.5 GB MP3 Jukebox about $220
3. Linksys BEFW11S4 Wireless-B Cable/DSL Router about $60
4. Logitech Cordless Elite Duo Keyboard & Mouse (967231-0403) about $60
5. Kingston Data Traveler II Plus - Migo Edition - USB flash drive - 256 MB ( DTII+M/256 ) about $50
*And many other things like books, camera cases, SD memory, etc.
I’ve spent nearly $1000 at Buy.com because I like to save an average $5 to $10 per product.
Is it really worth saving five bucks to purchase from Buy.com?
Not for me. Not any more. Many of the orders I have placed on Buy.com have caused me loads of stress. In some cases it can take close to a month to receive an order. I purchased an HP 17BII+ Financial Calculator from Buy.com January 10th of this year (2006) and have checked the status of the order online daily for the past 2 weeks, but the status remains “Sent to Warehouse,” which means it hasn’t been shipped… Before I placed the order, I checked with Buy.com to make sure it was in stock; it was, and so I placed the order. Now, if you check the website it reads “Currently Unavailable.” My order hasn’t been shipped, nor have I received a call or email from Buy.com to inform me of this situation. They have the worst customer service ever and I would recommend Amazon.com over Buy.com any day. I will never buy from Buy.com ever again.
I sent Buy.com this email:
My name is Ricardo Reyes, and I am very concerned about 2 things.
First, my order was placed on January 10th of this month and has not yet shipped. I need this calculator for a finance class that started two weeks ago. So I need you to ship it ASAP.
Second, I tried contacting Buy.com for an update two days ago, and I haven’t received a response. I have nearly fifteen friends in my class that also needed this calculator and I could have directed them to buy.com, but instead I have told them to purchase it from Amazon.com
because it isn’t worth the hassle.
Buy.com and more importantly Scott Blum had the opportunity to gain 15 referrals from one customer but lost those referrals to Amazon.com
. It is service like this that will continue to hurt Buy.com’s value in the future.
Buy.com should have sent me an email to explain the situation or to rectify any errors made on behalf of Buy.com.

My 2 cents:
Maybe the market isn’t the only reason Buy.com’s second IPO attempt has been reduced from $11 to $8, and has also been postponed to a later date (WSJ). I can see how the market is having some effect on their IPO, but if I were going to invest in a company, it wouldn’t be Buy.com. Their quality of service is below that of their main competitors and should be fixed before I could consider this company a good investment. The cost of restructuring its service might be more than me as an investor would like to overtake.
