Neftalí Ricardo Reyes Basoalto

Category: Family, Play, School

The funniest thing happened the other day. I experienced a revelation. All of my life I’ve known myself as an interesting, smart, creative person, but I never really new why I was so fortunate to possess these qualities. I’m not about to give you a definitive reason for why I have these qualities, but here it goes anyway:

Last semester I took a literature course in Latin American cultures. During the time I was enrolled in this course I read many pieces of Latin American literature; it was almost excessive. A few readings I actually enjoyed were written by the Nobel Prize winning author Pablo Neruda. His style was very baroque and influenced by political issues; extremely creative nonetheless. Anyway, I didn’t learn his real name until I did a search on Google for my name, Ricardo Reyes. The search returned a link to Pablo Neruda’s biography, in it I read his real name Neftalí Ricardo Reyes Basoalto.

Pablo Neruda (Neftalí Ricardo Reyes Basoalto)

I know that a name doesn’t really mean anything because I also found a man that is currently wanted in San Diego by the same name, but it is possible that the creative gene which Neruda possessed is in me.

Is this likely to be the reason why I am the way I am? It probably is not.
Is it impossible? Nearly, but no.

So for now, the Reyes name is not just a name. In English it means Kings, in genetic characteristics it means creative and genius ;) .

Anyone interested in his work should read this famous book:
