FreeCreditReport.com is a Scam

Category: Reviews

I consider myself a consistently responsible person. So, in January I decided to check my free annual credit report. I went on this website called FreeCreditReport.com because I thought it was free.

Turns out they’ve been charging me a $12.95 membership fee for the past 2 months. I only noticed this after I looked at my bank statement and it read “Triple Advantage.” I was like what the “F” is this?!

After doing a quick Google search I came to the realization that the website I had used earlier was charging me a membership fee. This is an unethical bait and switch scam.

Experian, the company that runs FreeCreditReport.com, should have a class action lawsuit filed against it for swindling people into paying monthly fees without their consent.

After learning of this yesterday, I tried to go online to cancel the membership, but there is no option for that on their website. Then, I tried to call their 800 number (887-481-6826) last night, but their call center was closed.

This morning I called and finally got through to someone: a female representative that kept trying to hustle me into keeping my membership. She sounded sympathetic but kept trying to install fear of credit theft in me. After saying CANCLE MY ACCOUNT more than 9 times and raising my voice a little louder, she finally cancelled my membership.

This is BS and I want all my friends to make sure this doesn’t happen to them. The next time you want to get your credit report online use: AnnualCreditreport.com. This is completely free without the unscrupulous business practices employed by Experian.

I also went to this site and signed up. I caught the $12.95 charge at the beginning but then had to up my payment to $19.95 to get all three reports and my credit scores. I later called to ask a few questions and got a lady who barely spoke english and had zero answers to anything. I then asked to cancel my membership. After being transfered the next lady tried to convince me to either keep my membership or upgrade. When this didn’t work I was offered the same service for $4.95. I also smelled a rat! I declined this offer and told them my choice was based on the fact I didn’t care to do business with someone this unethical. I more of us would not take them up on their cheaper offer after trying to scam us with the higher price, maybe this would stop.

In regards to freecreditreport.com, they are a scam. They took my money without my permission. For those who they owe money to, call the Irvine Police Department Irvine, Ca and they got my money back in one day. They are great.

    haha
Why would you pay money for a free credit report? Be a man and admit your mistake. Their service is actually pretty good for $12.95 a month.
